Tri-Creek School Corporation Alternative School Program

Lowell Learning Center (LLC)

Philosophy Statement:

Lowell Learning Center (LLC) provides an individual pathway for earning credits toward high school graduation.  In developing a student pathway, consideration is given to ability, achievement, learning style, special needs, and personal issues outside of the school setting.  The LLC educational pathway provides the greatest possible chance for student success.

Student Body:

LLC serves Lowell High School and Hanover Central High school students who need a non-traditional route to a high school diploma.  Students benefiting from this opportunity include students who have a history of chronic illness, a history of failure in the traditional setting, absenteeism, medical conditions, and those who need additional credits toward graduation.

Referral Procedure:

Students entering LLC are referred through the high school guidance office to the building principal.  Upon receiving a referral, the principal will review all pertinent information, and if the referral is approved by the principal, the appropriate guidance counselor will send the documents to the LLC teachers, and an intake conference will be scheduled.  During the intake conference, the student’s learning path with be reviewed with the student and parent(s)/guardian(s), and a class schedule will be determined.

Curriculum:

Most classes at LLC are a combination of computer modules and material taken directly from the traditional high school curriculum.  The LLC curriculum also includes a work/study and a service-learning component whereby students may earn elective credits.

Attendance:

In order to be considered for continued placement in the alternative setting, a student must complete six credits per semester.  If the student enrolls after the beginning of the semester, it is expected that he/she will complete approximately one credit every three weeks.  Good attendance and punctuality are prerequisites to learning and success.

Extracurricular Events:

LLC students may participate in all high school extracurricular events.  However, a student attending the LLC as a result of expulsion is not eligible to participate in Lowell High School sponsored events.
